Van Wert County has 243,000 acres of prime farmland. In fact, 93% of the soils in Van Wert County are classified as prime farmland. Urban areas account for 1% of the total acres in Van Wert County. The primary source of groundwater in Van Wert County is a carbonate aquifer system composed of limestone and dolomite bedrock.
