The Outstanding Master Gardener Volunteer Project in the Small Category (1-25 volunteers) was awarded to the Van Wert County Master Gardeners for the Children's Garden project.

The 2009 Master Gardener Volunteer Conference State Awards Program was recently held at Mason, Ohio. A plaque and monetary award was presented to the Master Gardeners attending:  Louise Hartwig, Jackie Dearbaugh, and Dee Jackson. To apply for this award, a detailed application was completed and a tri-fold display with numerous pictures of the Children's Garden was compiled and sent in for judging. Be sure to stop by and check out the tri-fold display and plaque which have been placed in the window of the CVB at 136 East Main Street, Van Wert. Many thanks go to the Master Gardener volunteers for their management of this project and to the support of the Van Wert City Parks Department under the leadershp of Sue Heppeard. Also, much appreciation goes to the community for their support with extraordinary monetary contributions and the many hours of labor donated by local individuals to make the Children's Garden that once was a dream, now a reality.
