Last modified 2008-05-02 11:01

You could be a Master Gardener if:MG Logo

  • You want to learn more about plants and gardening
  • You are eager to participate in a practical and intensive training program
  • You enjoy sharing your knowledge with others
  • You have enough time to attend training and volunteer your time to the community

The Master Gardener Program provides intensive training in horticulture to interested gardeners who then volunteer their time assisting with educational program and activities for Ohio residents through their Ohio State University County Extension Office. After completion of the course, they are required to donate 50 hours of this service to the community.

Working with county Extension personnel, Master Gardeners provide such services to their communities as answering gardening questions, conducting plant clinics, working with youth or the elderly, beautifying the community, developing community or demonstration gardens and other horticultural activities.

For more information, please contact Andy Kleinschmidt of the Van Wert County Extension Office at 419-238-1214 or kleinschmidt.5@osu.edu by email.

Children's GardenCHILDREN'S GARDEN

A unique garden setting, designed by the Van Wert County Master Gardeners of 2004 and 2006, is being created at Smiley Park and will provide a hands-on learning facility for children of all ages. A walkway through the center of the garden leads you to the colorful Butterfly House.

The Master Gardeners of 2003 have planned and carried out this downtown Van Wert park as a way to share information about gardens, plants, planting, and the joy of working in the soil.  Take a stroll through the Garden of the Senses.
